Q. What is a PHR?

A. A PHR is a personal health record or a summary of a larger medical record or history. PHRAnywhere allows a user to store this record electronically for viewing and/or updating as often as they like.

Q. When and where can PHRAnywhere be used?

A. PHRAnywhere can be used anytime an individual wishes to view or update their personal health record or wants to grant access to that information to another individual such as a doctor, hospital, or family member. PHRAnywhere may be accessed through the use of a smartcard or by accessing either the member or provider web portals therefore making the PHRAnywhere program accessible from anywhere with an internet connection.

Q. How does information get updated on PHRAnywhere?

A. Information on PHRAnywhere is updated through several secure connections with insurance administrators, laboratories and diagnostic centers, pharmacy benefit managers, and individual members.

Q. How do I register for PHRAnywhere?

A. Register on PHRAnywhere.com by clicking "Registration" under "Member Login" then follow the step-by-step instructions to complete your registration. An email will automatically be generated to you to confirm your registration. Open the link on the registration email as instructed and you are registered.

Q. How do I update my home address or phone number?

A. This information is fed into the system from your employer’s plan administrator or insurance carrier so it cannot be changed by the member using the member portal or by providers using the provider portal. Members must contact their employer’s HR Department and give them the new information.

Q. Is any of my personal health information available to my employer if they provide this service to their employees?

A. No. Your personal health record is viewable only by you and those individuals to whom you grant access. In addition, anytime you wish, inside the member portal you may disable access for any facility, provider or individual to whom you had previously granted access.

Q. Is PHRAnywhere secure? Is my information safe from being viewed by others?

A. PHRAnywhere is a highly secure storage unit for your PHR. PHRAnywhere stores all data in a SAS70, Type II certified facility. PHRAnywhere is a web-based architecture with the business logic located separate from the data. The web server authentication for PHRAnywhere is achieved using 128-bit server-side certification issued by VeriSign. PHRAnywhere utilizes a unique user-authentication process controlled by the user. Provider offices are given levels of access to information based upon specific job function and need. Employers are never given access to a member’s specific medical record or health summary. Access to health information is strictly controlled by the member.

Q. Can physician EMR (electronic medical record) systems be linked to PHRAnywhere?

A. Most EMR systems can be linked to PHRAnywhere through an interface; however, the cost and timeline for such would need to be discussed with a PHRAnywhere interface specialist.

Q. Does PHRAnywhere improve eligibility updates such as terminations from insurance coverage?

A. Employers do not interface or feed information directly into PHRAnywhere. The information specific to eligibility updates would still follow the same process flow from employer to plan administrator or insurance company. The information displayed on PHRAnywhere specific to eligibility is uploaded from plan administrators or insurance companies on a daily basis.

Q. How much time/cost is involved for implementing new employers on PHRAnywhere?

A. The initial time required from an employer standpoint is minimal. Interfaces between plan administrators and pharmacy benefit managers the employer utilizes can be achieved relatively quickly and in certain circumstances where common administrators exist, the interface may already be available and just need to be made specific to the new employer. Costs for the program are generally offset in savings to the plans through the elimination of several redundant diagnostic tests, avoidance of adverse medication interactions, and steerage toward lower cost generic alternatives available.

Q. What happens when members change employers or insurance?

A. Members can change employers or insurance and the PHRAnywhere portal will still contain the member’s health information because that information follows the member. If the member’s new employer or insurance participates in the PHRAnywhere program, the demographic and new insurance information will be updated by that new company.

Q. Will PHRAnywhere work for other insurance carriers?

A. PHRAnywhere uses an open architecture and is therefore compatible with any entity using the current HIPAA standardizations with regard to file layouts and formats

Q. Does PHRAnywhere note who makes changes to the information on record?

A. Yes. PHRAnywhere tracks the person or entity making changes to the record with an identifier, date and time stamp on the record.

Q. What about data backup? Will information be accessible at all times?

A. Data is stored on multiple servers and that data is backed up daily during slow hours such as midnight. Updated claims and eligibility data will be available after midnight each day.
